Hollywood; the place where everyone sues everyone over just about anything imaginable.

The tattoo artist who created the iconic Mike Tyson facial tattoo attempted to sue Warner Brothers Entertainment. The character “Ed” in the “Hangover Part 2”, wakes up with a recreation of Tyson’s recognisable tribal facial tattoo.

The tattoo artist formerly of Las Vegas, now in Missouri was demanding monetary damages for  (in his terms) “reckless copyright infringement” and also demanded the creators put a hold on releasing the movie.

“This case is not about Mike Tyson, Mike Tyson’s likeness, or Mike Tyson’s right to use or control his identity,” the complaint against Warner Bros says. “This case is about Warner Bros. appropriation of Mr. Whitmill’s art and Warner Bros. unauthorized use of that art, separate and apart from Mr. Tyson.”

Mike Tyson plays the role of himself in both part 1 and 2 of The Hangover movies.

Terms of the settlement of the court case have not been disclosed, but the Tattoo Artists attorney said in a statement  “Warner Bros. and Mr. Whitmill have amicably resolved their dispute. No other information will be provided.”

The judge referred to the studio’s defences as “silly.”

What is the world coming to where tattoos may come under “copyright infringement”????

The film, meanwhile, has gone on to earn almost $500 million worldwide!!!
